THE STORY
Centuries ago, in a spot not far from here
The visionary John Taylor, set out to make things clear.
It was 1856, rumors of southern withdrawal spread
“How can I bring us back together?” Taylor bluntly said.
“Pork roll,” he muttered, unsure of his creation.
Salty, so delicious, this will surely unite our nation!
Slather it with cheese, the Southerners will love it.
Put it on a roll, for the northerners to covet!
Bursting from his kitchen, Taylor held the sandwich up
Dripping from its borders: salt, pepper and ketchup.
Onlookers cheered, many taking out their wallet
“It looks so good, but what do we call it?!
John’s mother, always wise, and so very proud
Came out to address the hungry hungry crowd
It’s really quite simple, as she named it with ease
Here stands the glorious Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese!
“But can we call it “pork roll?” - a simpleton’s query!
Mr. Taylor did then agree, but he was still quite weary.
Our nation was saved, but we paid a dear toll
Somehow south Jerseyans kept calling it pork roll!
What did we fight for? Go live in shame!
Surely, you haven’t forgotten this delight’s real name!
Here we stand, to set this record straight
Stuffed between a bagel, there are few things so great.
Enjoy it with friends, enjoy it with your fam
We welcome you all to The Tailored Ham
